Donnie William Griffin

Donnie William Griffin, 69, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born in Gaston County on April 17, 1956, and was the son of Thelma Wright Griffin and the late Don Griffin. In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, James "Mick" Carpenter; his niece, Terrie Griffin; and his sister-in-law, Laney Griffin.
Donnie was a graduate of North Gaston High School. He was employed by Winn Dixie for 33+ years, working in many capacities (bag boy, meat cutter, manager of various departments). He was a shade tree mechanic and loved to work on cars. He was a gifted and talented man who could fix about anything. He was the neighborhood fix-it man. He also handcrafted and painted wooden crafts, displaying and selling at local craft shows with his wife for 25 years.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Marsha Carpenter Griffin; brothers, Danny Griffin and Terry Griffin (Karen); mother-in-law, Ann Wilson Carpenter; sister-in-law, Jamie Carpenter Bond (Tommy); nieces, Jennifer Griffin, Haley Griffin, Natalie Bond Reeder (Jared); nephew, Zachary Bond (Victoria); great-nephew, Rily Lowe; beloved friends, Kandy & Doodle Grayson, Starlyn & Craig Philbeck, Robin Aldridge, Mike Risha, Mindy Adams, and his Winn Dixie family.
The family is deeply grateful for the love and care Donnie received from our family and friends who lovingly served as caregivers, as well as the kind and compassionate staff of Carolina Caring/Gaston Hospice.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Friday, May 23, 2025 at Greene Funeral Service - 1503 S. York Road, Gastonia, NC 28052. A celebration of life will take place at 11:00 AM at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia, NC.
