Samuel Hopper Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Messmer-Goodwin Funeral Home on Jan. 8, 2026.
Samuel "Sammy" L. Hopper, Jr. of Hayden, Ala. passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at the age of 57.

Sammy was always expressing himself through his art, like drawing portraits of people and things, as well as painting cars. Telling Sam how it's all done and that he should learn. He was fascinated by documentaries on wonders of the world and nature, and would talk about traveling to places like Egypt, and tell Sam, Katie and Josh how interesting all this was to watch and learn about. Sammy loved spending time with his family, watching movies, fishing, driving around teaching and showing the kids new things, and riding his motorcycle, of which he wanted another. He loved going to places like Pensacola Beach or Elvis's mansion on vacations, and Stephanie's trip to the railway and Ruby Falls. His career in auto painting and bodywork let him express himself in ways other things could not. He had a strong passion for his job, especially getting to paint and work on antique cars. He loved collecting all kinds of coins and giving to his granddaughter, Cora, and telling her about them and all the unique ones he had found in his lifetime. He loved Cora and Piper so much. Sammy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Sammy was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel L. Hopper, Sr. and Flossie E. Hopper. He is survived by his wife, Ramona Hopper; children, Katherine Worley (Josh), Stephanie Hopper (Tony Cornelison) and Sam Hopper (Bailey Yandell); two granddaughters, Cora Cantone and Piper Cornelison; and siblings, Tina Worsham (Tim) and Tony Hopper.

A graveside service for Sammy will be held at Elvester Cemetery on Sunday, January 11, beginning at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow immediately after the funeral service.
