Samuel Robert Kirk, born December 5, 1940, to Charlie and Margie Kirk, passed away peacefully at his home on February 23, 2025. He had two siblings, a sister Donna and a brother Charles, all of whom preceded him in death.
Sam was a force to be reckoned with from the very beginning. He spent his younger years in Gray Horse, Oklahoma, roaming the hills and creeks. From the time he was a child, he demonstrated dedication and focused intent in everything he pursued. He was actively involved in sports throughout his youth, playing football, basketball and track. He lettered in all three sports in high school for the Fairfax Red Devils. He also took up golf and softball and, true to his athletic nature, excelled at all.
He met the love of his life, Sharon Kay Stark in Pawhuska and married right out of high school. Throughout their 64 years together, he remained a reliable provider and supporter of his family. He spent many years working for some of the largest corporations in the oil and gas industry. He specialized in instrumentation and electronic controls for equipment installed in oil fields and offshore platforms all over the world. His professional career was also marked by entrepreneurial success as the owner of several Tulsa based businesses, including Arrow Engineering, Datalink and Auto Merchant, which he operated for many years alongside his sons.
Sam embraced his heritage as a proud member of the Osage Nation. His Osage name is Wat-So-Moi. He also regularly attended church services, demonstrating his connection to both his cultural roots and Christian values. His love for nature and the outdoors was evident in his many outdoor pursuits. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and shooting enthusiast. His dogs were cherished companions throughout his life. He also earned his private pilot's license and flew his own planes for many years.
Sam lived a productive and fulfilling life, leaving behind a loving family who will cherish his memory. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sharon; his sons, Mark along with his wife Karen and Rick and his wife Rita. He also enjoyed his six grandchildren, Stacy Lookout and her husband Sammy, Samantha Wilson and her husband, Justin, Austin Kirk and his wife Kristin, Cameron Kirk and his wife Chelsea, Katelyn Kirk and her husband Kale and Kallie Beel and her husband Justin. He also has 14 great grandchildren, the youngest of which was born just a few weeks ago, just in time to meet his Papa. There are also many nieces, nephews and cousins in Oklahoma, California, Oregon and elsewhere.
Sam's legacy of hard work, dedication to family, love for God and appreciation for life's simple pleasures will continue to inspire all who knew him.
