Samuel Mangano Obituary

Samuel Anthony Mangano, a cherished patriarch and beacon of devotion, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025, in Jefferson, Louisiana, at the age of 95. Born on February 14, 1930, in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Louisiana, Samuel's life was a testament to love, hard work, and family values.

Samuel's journey began as the beloved son of John J. Mangano and Elizabeth Schlumbright Mangano. His life was enriched by the love and companionship of his dear wife, Earline 'Leenie' Kern Mangano, with whom he shared 46 years of marriage before her passing. Together, they created a legacy of love that continued through their four adoring children, Kerri Mangano Hawkins (Julian), Stacey Mangano Bennett, Steven John Mangano (Teresa), and Dean Michael Mangano, who Samuel cared for with unwavering commitment for the last 23 years of his life.

His role as a proud grandfather brought him immense joy as he watched his lineage flourish through his grandchildren, Ryan DeRocha (Kristen), Kevin DeRocha (Dina), Dana Bennett Tallo (Nathan), Kara Bennett, April Stevens, and Cameron Bennett. Samuel's heart swelled with pride for his great-grandchildren, Olivia DeRocha, Riley Tallo, Gavin DeRocha, Corrine DeRocha, Jayce Stevens, Dante Tallo, Tyler Brooks, and Waylon Leal. His love and guidance extended to many nieces and nephews, who will carry forward his spirit.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Mary Rodrigue, Johnnie Mangano, Theodore Mangano, Josephine Mangano, and Biaggio Mangano.

Samuel's professional life was marked by dedication and achievement in the Liquor Distribution industry, where he worked for 47 years before retiring as a Warehouse Manager.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Samuel found solace and joy in his barn, which was both a sanctuary for his woodworking and carpentry and a playhouse for his children. His hands, ever so skilled and steady, crafted not only wooden masterpieces but also a safe haven of memories for his family. A man of varied interests, Samuel enjoyed keeping abreast of current events by watching Fox and NewsMax, and he lived through the terms of 13 U.S. Presidents, starting with President Herbert Hoover.

Samuel's legacy is one of selflessness, his hands forever ready to build, fix, and give. His loving nature enveloped his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. The words that best describe Samuel-selfless, handy, and loving-barely scratch the surface of the impact he had on the lives of those around him.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124, on Friday, November 7, 2025, starting at 11:00 AM. A Memorial Mass will follow the visitation at 1:00 PM. The burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
