Samuel Alexander Alias Eyeball, John, Henry, Cesaro, Pugh, Brown, Jones, Eyeclicker McRae, better known as "Shorty" 97 of Mt Gilead went to his heavenly home Monday evening, September 25, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, September 28, 2023 at White Crest Baptist Church, Pastors Ken McRae and Danny Laws will officiate and interment will follow in the Family Cemetery at the McRae Farm. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Wednesday evening at White Crest Baptist Church.
Mr. McRae was born August 31, 1926 in Montgomery County to the late Murphy Asbury and Sally DeBerry McRae. He was a WWII Veteran of the Merchant Marines and retired owner and operator of McRae Roofing and Siding Company in Asheboro and was a member of White Crest Baptist Church.
Mr. McRae enjoyed his life to the fullest. He enjoyed farming, hunting and fishing. He had a unique collection of antique cars he enjoyed making a trade. He was also well-known for his love of Story Telling. His most cherished time was spent with his loving family.
He is survived by his loving son Danny "Whitey" McRae and wife Lisa of Mt. Gilead. His grandchildren Michelle McRae Millen and husband Bruce and Ken Alexander McRae and wife Christy all of Mt. Gilead and great-grandchildren, Robert Tyler Yarboro, Abigail Lea Yarboro and Gage Alexander McRae.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years Mildred Eudy McRae February 16, 2022. His son Jerry Samuel McRae. His daughter-in-law Soundra Harris McRae. Brothers, Buck McRae, Jay Bird McRae, John McRae. Sisters, Myrtle Hudson, Mary Brewer, Fannie Madaris, Sarah Diminich and Jackie Byrd.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to OE Enterprises (Formerly Randolph County Sheltered Workshop, where his son worked, 348 Elizabeth Brady Road, Hillsboro, NC 27278.
