SAMUEL J. "SAM" SLIMAN
On July 24, 2023 Samuel J."Sam" Sliman passed away surrounded by his loving family. Sam was born October 12, 1954 in Canton to the late Jennie and Samuel TJ Sliman.
Sam's memory will be cherished by his loving wife of 43 years, Cynthia (Hibbard) Sliman and their six devoted children: Melissa (Mike) Lombardi, Samuel TJ Sliman (Ferris Nimen), Jessica (Frankie) Luckino, Mary Frances (Bobby) Serpentini, Sarah (Devon) Kelleher, and Alyson (Wes) Amberge. Sam is also survived by the lights of his life-his 10 grandchildren: Isabel, Gabrielle, Michael and Sammy Lombardi; Jude Sliman; Nora, Stella, and Franco Luckino; Francesca Serpentini; Jack Amberge; and by his sister Judi (Bob) Humphries, nephew and niece Nick (Kellie) Humphries and Jenna Humphries and many other nieces and nephews.
Sam is a 1973 graduate of Central Catholic High School and a 1977 graduate from Walsh University. Sam proudly served 30 years as Civil Service Director for the City of Canton, retiring at the end of 2022. Sam also served as the annexation "czar" from 2001-2020 with a passion to expand his beloved Canton.
Sam was the proud owner of Sliman's Printery and Meyer's Lake Beverage and Drive-Thru. He represented Ward 1 as a Canton City councilman in the late 1980s. Sam was an active member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the American-Lebanese Association of Stark County. Sam served on the Walsh University Board of Trustees for several years.
Sam loved animals-especially dogs-bringing home several strays throughout the years. He loved sports, particularly Cleveland teams, but most importantly, he loved his Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.
In addition to his family, Sam loved and cherished his hometown of Canton, and loved watching it grow and thrive, always supporting the downtown Canton restaurants.
Sam will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his ever-growing family and countless friends and community members.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 27 at St Michael Church 4pm-8pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, July 28 at 10am at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Canton. Interment at St. Peter Cemetery. Arrangements by Lamiell Funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Central Catholic High School in Sam's name.

Cynthia, ,Melissa, family, I am so sorry and sad for your loss. Sam definitely was a blessing to the community but honestly growing up with him and the Carr family is my fondest memories. We played football and baseball in the backyards. Like I said I am so sorry! Prayers!

A great friend and customers for many years. You have been an asset to Canton in so many ways, but mainly a husband and father who will be missed by all. Prays for your family.
