Sandor Bacsik Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Simple Funerals - Wayne County on Mar. 2, 2025.
SANDOR F. BACSIK
1946 - 2025
Sandor Frank Bacsik; Age 78 of Southfield, Michigan (Formerly of Detroit) passed away Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Trinity Health Oakland Hospital in Pontiac, Michigan. He was born on May 22, 1946 to Bert and Josie Bacsik (nee: Vietzke) in Escanaba, Michigan.
Sandor was so proud of being an Upper. To him, being in the woods was like heaven. Whether fishing, hunting or picking fruit off the trees, he loved it all. He enjoyed camping trips and rafting for days at a time with his brother, Jim and their friends.
Sandor played basketball in high school and had a shooting style compared to Bob Cousy. He attended Michigan State University where many of his dearest friends were met. After leaving Michigan State University, he moved to the San Francisco Bay area and later received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Physical Anthropology. He graduated in the top 10% of his class and was offered his own lab even though he was just an undergrad.
Sandor wasn't just a "Big Brain", he could repair anything on a car or house, including roofing. He had great patience and taught an "English as a Second Language". His humanity and humility made him all the more endearing to those that met him.
Survived by his beloved wife, Kathy D. Bacsik (nee: Lynch) who he married in Oakland, California on July 23, 2004 and met at Michigan State University and has known him for 57 years. Dear brother of Esther Grenfell, and the late Jim Bacsik and Susan (who died at age 2). Uncle of Brit Grenfell, Linda and Kelly Bellmore. Also survived by his uncle, Richard "Uncle Dick" Vietzke.
I am sorry for your Loss because I was lucky enough to know him for 57 years. If you have not met him then you lost out.
"When you look at the night sky, he is the brightest star in the Heavens."

On a Sunday morning just before the beginning of the first semester of my sophomore year (1967) I bumped into Sandor just outside the Student Union. We were both headed for 601 Abbot Rd where we were about to become roommates because the only room left was a double. 601 Abbot Rd was a mythical rooming house inhabited by a CIA agent who died on the steps of Alenda´s palace, a 14 year old prodigy working on his master in advanced math who listened to Johnny Cash all night long, a black artist who did the most fantastic velvet Elvis paintings to ever reach the Lansing flea markets and us. The house became famous because it ran the longest running Risk game in history. It lasted for an entire 10 week semester. People off the streets would come and take each other´s place if you had class or had to go out to eat. You could come home at 2 in the morning and find the game going with people who you´d never seen before waiting to step in. It was really a magical place to live and a magical time in both of our lives. Sandor and I were great friends until he left for California and the fact that he is no longer on the Planet leaves me with a great sense of lose. Kathy gives me great joy to know that you shared such terrific successes with Sandor and I am terribly sorry for your loss
