Sandra Elms, 76, of Lawrence, KS, passed away on 2/21/2026 at home, surrounded by family.
Sandra was born on 1/13/1950 in Lawrence, KS. She grew up in Eudora, KS and graduated from Eudora High School in 1968. She later attended Coffeyville Community College in Coffeyville Kansas.
She married Charles Elms on June 4th, 1972, and together they shared 53 years of marriage. Sandra worked as a seamstress for many years and later instructed water aerobics for several years prior to her retirement.
Sandra was known for her kindness, humor, dedication, strong work ethic, and love of her family. She enjoyed music, family gatherings and most of all, time spent with her grandchildren. She was known to take last minute calls from local youth on the eve of a formal or prom to make last minute/ emergency alterations to dresses and tuxedos; sometimes while being worn and with a car waiting outside. She would happily respond to fashion emergencies at any time, day or night, and assist with a smile.
She is survived by her husband Charles. Sons, Aaron (Stephanie) of Hubert, North Carolina and Matthew and fiancé Britney of Lawrence. Her 4 grandchildren Dakota, Hunter, Lacy, and Waylon. Brothers Steve and Jerry Luther. Sisters, Donna Manker and Kathy Mallonee. She was preceded in death by her parents Don Luther and Mina Hundley (William); sisters Janice Blackman and Lita Bateson; and brother Randy Luther.
In accordance with her wishes, a public memorial service will not be held. She requested a gathering of family and friends to enjoy one another’s company rather than to mourn her passing. That celebration of life will be announced later.
The family would like to thank Visiting Nurses of Lawrence for the exceptional care and attention provided to the family in the final weeks.
