Sandra M. Gromaski
Pinconning, Michigan
Sandra Marie Gromaski, 78, of Pinconning, MI passed away in the early hours of December 15, 2024 surrounded by those who loved her most.
Sandy was born June 3, 1946 in Bay City, MI to Isabelle (Salois) and Edward Satkowiak, the third of four children. Sandy was a quiet kid with a calm demeanor, in stark contrast to her two older brothers. To her little sister, she was a role model and confidant. She spent 12 years in Catholic school; St. Valentine School in Kawkawlin and St. Stan's where she graduated high school in 1964.
She met the love of her life, Walter Gromaski, when she was 16. In search of some fun, she crashed a wedding reception to which neither her nor her pals had been invited, and Wally and his buddies had the same idea. He noticed Sandy from across Beaver Community Hall, asked her to dance, and made plans to see her the following day. Due to a bit of car trouble, Wally was about an hour late for their date, but in true form, Sandy's saint-like patience and understanding prevailed, and the rest, as they say, was history.
They married on February 6, 1965. Together, they raised two children, Chris and Kari, and so began her deep, lifelong commitment to her family. As a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Sandy was incredibly generous in the love she invested into those around her. Whether it was through her holiday baking, loaning a vehicle, or sneaking a little extra gas money to her grandkids, she loved and protected her family deeply and unconditionally–and they felt every bit of it. She also took immense joy in reading, cooking, gardening, and appreciating life's simple blessings.
Sandy spent her career in positions with the Mt. Forest Twp. Zoning Board retired as Site Manager of Division on Aging. In her retirement, she was an active member of the parish councils for St. Valentine and Holy Trinity Catholic churches.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her mother and father in law, Ludvina and Walter Gromaski Sr., her brother Terry Satkowiak, sister-in-law Beverly Satkowiak; brothers-in-law, Tom Bryce and Jeff Ellison; and nephew, Andy "Bud" Satkowiak.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of nearly 60 years, Walter Gromaski; their son Chris (Wendy) Gromaski; their daughter Kari Morse; her six grandchildren, Kyah (Jordan) Courter, Kiara Huber, Tricia (Alex) Harley, Emily (Jacob) Gromaski, Christopher Gromaski, and Ross Gromaski; and two great-granddaughters, Bristol and Lydia Harley. She is also survived by her brother Larry Satkowiak, her sister Diane Bryce, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
