Sandra K. Helmink, 80, of Sigel, IL, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lillyville with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2025 at the church. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Church in Lillyville or Meals on Wheels. Online condolences may be shared at www.johnsonandsonsfh.com.
Sandra was born October 23, 1944, in Effingham, IL, the daughter of Ewald and Adeline (Deters) Probst. She married Clarence L. Helmink on October 24, 1964, and he preceded her in death on December 22, 2005.
Sandra was a lifelong dairy farmer and was very engaged in the farming operation. She was a down-to-earth person who enjoyed the outdoors. Sandra was an avid gardener. She could grow anything and was proud of her garden. Sandra was known for her pies and enjoyed sharing with others. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Lillyville and in her younger days, a member of the Ladies' Sodality.
Sandra is survived by her children, Karl (Susan) Helmink of Philo, IL, Joyce (David) Flood of Dieterich, Jane Helmink of Effingham, Gary (Mandi) Helmink of Galloway, OH, and Dean Helmink of Sigel; 7 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild on the way; siblings, Janet (Pat) Jansen, Larry (Jane) Probst, and Roy (Doris) Probst; and sister-in-law, Darlene Probst.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence; and brother, Danny Probst.
