Sandra Dolores James

Sandra D. James died March 21, 2025. Sandy was born April 13, 1939 to Chester and Anna Mann in Eureka, Kansas and attended schools in Eureka.
Sandy was married to Chuck Smith of Eureka on April 15, 1955. They had five children together, making their home in Dewey, Oklahoma. Chuck preceded Sandy in death on April 29, 1983, after 28 years of marriage.
Later Sandy married Ernest "Jitter" James on October 1, 1993 in Miami, OK. They made their home in Dewey until Jitter preceded Sandy in death on November 18, 2017, after 24 years of marriage.
Sandy was a busy mother of five young children, then went to work as a nurse's aide in local nursing homes when the children were all of school age. Sandy's most rewarding and fulfilling job outside of her home, was with Jane Phillips Geriatrics Center, where she worked for many years, making lifelong friends. After the Geriatrics Center closed, Sandy worked as a private sitter in patients' homes.
Sandy is survived by her children and their families, as follows:
Paul Smith and his wife, Debbie, Gary Smith and his wife Marcy, all of Copan, Tammy Townsley, and her husband Roger, of Houston, TX and Craig Smith and his wife, Judy, and Brad Smith, all of Dewey. Sandy was proceeded in death by one daughter-in-love, Betty Ratliff.
Grandchildren include Gabriel Cochran of Tulsa, Basil Smith of Dewey, Ryan Townsley and his wife Katie Bailey of Washington DC, Tyler Townsley and his wife, Alisha of San Antonio, TX, Jacey Gorham of Dewey, Cody Smith and his wife Crystal of Grove, Joely Groves and her husband Jacob of Dewey.
Great grandchildren are A'lyssa Cochran, Reece Cochran, Garrett Cochran, Emma Smith, Cecilia Townsley, Abigail Townsley, David Schoennagel, Bryce Short, Cole Thomas, Kaden Pierce, Colby Smith, Chloee Smith, Jace Williams and Addison Bromagem.
A memorial will be held at the Dewey Cemetery on Friday, April 4 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Journey Home, 900 Washington Blvd., Bartlesville, OK 74006.
