Sandra Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home on Feb. 17, 2025.
Sandra Kay Johnson, nee Carie, was born on June 3, 1948 in Vincennes, IN to Leo and June (nee Cessna) Carie. On Monday morning, February 17, 2025 she peacefully passed away with her devoted husband at her side.
Sandy was a graduate of Bridgeport High School, Class of 1966. She earned her degree from Eastern Illinois University in 1969. She had many fulfilling occupations throughout her working life. She was a Home Extension Agent for the University of IL, a Registered Dietician for the State of IL, a teacher, and finally a Broker Manager for RE/MAX Affiliates of Naperville.
Sandy married Ron Johnson on February 14, 1971. They settled in Naperville, IL in 1974. Outside of her professional life, Sandra was very active in her church. She was a longtime member of the Zion United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville and Grace United Methodist Church in Naperville. She dedicated her time and talents to her churches and was always willing to lend a hand to someone in need. She was also a member of the Fort Payne Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution.
Sandy was talented in many ways. She was a gifted quilter and belonged to several quilting groups. She delighted in spending hours in her backyard garden and cultivating rewards to share with all. Retirement allowed her to dedicate much more time to her crafts and her lifelong love of reading. She truly enjoyed entertaining her Old Farm friends of nearly 50 years and reminiscing about simpler times. A simple walk by herself or in the company of those she loved was time she always treasured.
Sandy enjoyed travelling with her family and friends. She was blessed to experience many places throughout the world and was always ready for a new adventure. She completed the 3 hour, 440 foot climb to the top of the Sydney Harbor Bridge in Australia with her husband. She travelled to multiple states with her friend Sharon, a fellow quilter, to attend many quilting conventions.
In addition to her husband Ronald, and their son, Chris Johnson, Sandy is survived by her sister, Roberta Oden Tutle of Portland, TN; brother, Robert Carie of Palm Springs, CA; nephew, Lief (Brittany) Johnson of Equality, IL and their children, Erica and Brahm; nephew, Tim Boren of Orlando, FL; niece, Amber (John) Ladd of Nashville, TN and their son, Blake; as well as over 70 cousins, and countless great friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and June Carie; her brother, Michael (Trudy) Boren of Orlando, CA; and parents-in-law, Ernest O. and Rosemary Johnson.
For those who would like to leave a lasting tribute to Sandy's life, memorial donations may be directed to the Vasculitis Foundation.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 12, 1:00-3:00 PM at the Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. Funeral Services will follow at 3:00 PM at the funeral home. A private family interment will be held later at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
