Sandra R. Lauzier
Sandy Lauzier, 73, an incredible wife, mother and grandmother, left this world on November 6th after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by family and in the caring hands of the wonderful staff at Gosnell Memorial Hospice in Scarborough.
Sandy was born in Biddeford on September 11, 1951, a daughter to Paul and Patricia (Henderson) Reny.
Sandy attended Saco schools and graduated from Thornton Academy in 1969. She dedicated her life to caring for others, inspired by a generous spirit that led her to a fulfilling 52 year career as an RN. She graduated from Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor in 1972. In her extensive nursing career she began at the Webber Hospital in Biddeford, worked in public health for some time, then realized her passion was working with children which led her to working at Sweetser Children's Home for 7 years. In 1985 she became a school nurse in the Biddeford School Department and in 1997 became a school nurse for the Saco School Department, until her retirement in 2021. Even after retirement, Sandy's dedication to her students was unparalleled and her commitment to nursing continued as she mentored the next generation, working as a clinical supervisor for CNA students for the Biddeford Center of Technology.
Sandy met the love of her life, Don, in Biddeford in 1968. They dated for five years, married July 8, 1972 and they raised three wonderful children together. Don adored Sandy and took care of her during her illness until she took her final breath.
Above all, Sandy found her greatest joy in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren with whom she spent a lot of time with, throughout their lives. She found so much happiness whether she was walking on trails in the woods with them, building fairy houses, shopping, creating special memories by taking them to special places, including Salem, MA near halloween each year! Her creativity in planning special individual adventures for the grandchildren was incredible. She thoroughly enjoyed Monday night dinners at her house where all the children and grandchildren met for dinner every Monday with her and Don, for 7 years! She loved family gatherings, holidays and celebrations, filling these moments with warmth and laughter.
Sandy enjoyed peaceful walks and bike rides with her husband, and other interests included quilting, reading, playing family games, and sitting on the bed chatting with the kids about things going on in their lives. She loved to listen to her husband play the trumpet, watching/playing jeopardy at night with him and watching home rehab shows on t.v
She was truly the matriarch of the family and will leave a large void.
She is survived by her adoring husband of 52 + years, Don, three loving adult children, Jeremy, Benjamin, and Melissa Lauzier and her 6 amazing grandchildren, Megan, Caleb, Ryder, Annabelle, Cooper, and Braydon. She also leaves behind her siblings Robert Reny and his wife Marsha, her sister Kathleen Reny, and nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday November 11, 2024 from 4-7pm at Cote Funeral Home Chapel, 87 James St. Saco. A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday November 12, 2024 at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco.
Sandy's life was a testament to kindness, dedication, and love. She touched the lives of many people and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
