Obituary published on Legacy.com by Nelsons Cremation & Funeral Services - Gaylord on Nov. 5, 2025.
Sandra Louise Long-Spicer," Sandy", age 86, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 24, 2025, in
Gaylord, Michigan surrounded by her loving family. Born in Vienna Corners, Michigan, on February 26, 1939, the daughter of Albert E. Smith and M. Margaret Doherty.
Sandy grew up in a tight-knit family that included her beloved sister Joann and her brother Darryl. During high school, Sandy possessed a bright and curious mind, which served her well throughout her life. From her early days as a dedicated mail carrier in Johannesburg, to her diligent work in the family-run restaurant in Vienna Corners. After moving to Brighton, Michigan, Sandy held leadership roles as a supervisor at Marshalls in Brighton and in the bakery at the Meijer store in Howell, Michigan Sandy was always willing to pitch-in, lead and work hard.
Sandy and first husband, Howard L. Long, were blessed with their children, Dawn L. Long, Mark B. (Julie) Long, Ellen M. (Craig) Hoyt, Greg K. Long, and Matthew K. Long.-as well as cherishing the memories of Stacey, Cindy, and Jeffery, who predeceased her. Later in life, Sandra married Dan Spicer Sr., who stood by her as a loving husband until her last day.
Sandy is further survived by her brother Darryl (Lynne) Smith, her grandchildren, Corie R. (Greg) Tobias, Jacob Sherock, Erik Roy, Mandy Roy, Krystal (David) Roznowski, Alexanderia (J.R.) Godin, Kyle (Samantha) Hoyt, Sydney Hoyt, Thaddeus Long, and her great-grandchildren Donavan, Marshall, Abraham, Liam, Hannah, Connor, Kaden, and Harper. She poured her love into every interaction, including with her many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Christian faith was Sandy's guiding light, illuminating her path and giving her strength. Her hands, always ready to serve others, were an extension of her heart, whether she was baking her famous pies, cooking for a family gathering, sewing for those in need, or creating music to uplift the soul. She was a talented pianist, guitarist, and singer, often writing music that resonated with the harmony of her beliefs. Alongside these passions, Sandra served as the President of the Athletic Boosters in Johannesburg, where she advocated for youth and the importance of sportsmanship.
Being so active in her youth made her strive to continue being an active community member. From fundraising, working as an Athletic Booster, score keeping, a cheerleader for her kids, baking for charity events, to baking for numerous restaurants with far too many to list. From mother to great-grandmother Sandy was always driven to provide a solid grounding in Christ. Her home was filled with family, food, and fun. She loved being a mom, a grandma, and a wife. And her family was beyond blessed to have her in their lives.
Sandy now joins her parents, sister Joann, brother-in-law William Cull, and children in the heavenly choir. Her presence among us will be deeply missed, yet we take solace in knowing that she rests peacefully in the arms of her Savior. Blessed with a life abundant in love, Sandra Long-Spicer's memory will forever remain in the hearts of those she so deeply cherished.
A Memorial and Life Celebration will be held for Sandy on Saturday November 8, 2025. Sandy's family will receive friends and guests beginning at 2:00 pm with a Celebration of Life service beginning at 2:30 pm. Officiating the service will be Reverend Pastor Derek Hagland.
