Sandra Smolen Obituary

Sandra was born in Bridgeport, CT to the late Bernard and Beatrice Smolen. She graduated from Bunnell High School in 1973 and went on to graduate from Dean Jr College and Central Connecticut State College in 1977 with a Masters Degree in Education. Sandra taught elementary school students for the Bridgeport Public Schools system. She enjoyed shopping, the Yankees, the beach, and loving her nieces and nephews and grand niece and nephew.
Sandra is survived by her dear brothers Robert Smolen (Barbara Schneider) of Maplewood, NJ and Gerald Smolen (Miriam Smolen) of Fairfax, VA, her adored nephews and niece, Noah Smolen, Eli Smolen, Shoshana Smolen, and Avi Smolen (Justin Rosen Smolen), and cherished grandnephew and grandniece Aaron and Kaylee.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at 2:00 PM from Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home, 88 Beach Rd, Fairfield, CT. Burial will follow at Beth Shalom Cemetery, 250 Reid St, Fairfield, CT. Shiva will be observed immediately following services at Sandra's home in Stratford, CT, and will continue at the Smolen residences in New Jersey and Virginia. My most sincere condolences to Sandy’s family and friends. Sandy and I spent many summers watching her beloved Yankees play at Yankee stadium. I will miss those wonderful outings with her. She turned me into a faithful fan. Sandy, I will carry it forward until we meet again.

I´ve known Sandy and her family for many years growing up. Every time I went to my aunt Marion`s house that lived two doors away from her we would play together. I went to high school with her and we didn´t hang out a lot in high school, but I have known her and been a friend of hers for many many years. We lost touch pretty much after high school, but see her around town from time to time. She has always been a beautiful person. May she rest in peace .Very sad

Loved being a friend of Sandy's over so many years. She had a big heart and a great sense of humor! I saw her last year when she came to Florida for a visit. Was looking forward to another, but alas it will not come to pass. She will be missed by many who were touched by her in their lives.

On behalf of the Ashen family, I was truly saddened to hear of Sandy's passing. I have run into her a few times over the years, and the smile on her face never changed. I have fond memories of the entire Smolen family from our Lobdell Drive days, and activities at Temple Beth Shalom. Please know I am thinking of you all during this very sad and difficult time.

I babysat for Sandy and her brothers when they were elementary school age. They were lively, challenging, kind, and fun...and, they were a part of our infamous "Lobdell Drive gang" in their childhood days. Oh so fond memories.
