Sandra Swarthout Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jun. 5, 2023.
Sandra "Sandy" J. Swarthout, age 89 of Climax, passed away on June 4, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 6, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Lee and Marguerite (Garms) Fenwick. Sandy grew up in Climax, Michigan and graduated from Climax High School in 1952, at the top of her class. On February 13, 1955, Sandra married Wesley "Wes" Swarthout. They were lucky enough to have 67 loving years together. They were a beautiful team and built a wonderful life on their Centennial farm where they raised their family. When the kids were grown, she worked in the trust department at PNC Bank. Her priority though was always supporting Wes on the farm in every way possible for them to flourish. They were founding members of the Newcomers Farm Bureau group, that met once a month for nearly 50 years. Sandy and Wes were staples at Station 66 for lunch, dinners, and ice cream. They proudly traveled the country cheering on Cherie as she played basketball for MSU. Sandy was a member of many clubs and organizations throughout her life that led to a lifetime of wonderful friendships. Most recently, she was a member of the "Wednesday Cut Ups" known for their socializing...and a little bit of quilting. Sandy enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting and creating beautiful keepsakes for her family. She was famous for her baby booties that adorned all the newborns. Her most precious time was spent being together as a family for a holiday or family dinner. Her kindness, encouragement, strength, and love will be missed by those who knew her. We know she is reunited with Wes once again and they can continue where they left off with enjoying their beautiful life together. Sandra is survived by her children: James (Sally) Swarthout, Callie (Mike) Moreland, and Cherie Swarthout; grandchildren, Heather (Conor) McHale, Melissa Moreland, Dustin (Angie) Swarthout, Andy (Hailey) Swarthout, Mattison Swarthout-Yopp, Zuri Swarthout-Yopp; great-grandchildren, Mary McHale, Wesley McHale, Anna Swarthout, Colton Swarthout, Heidi Swarthout, Ellie-Mae Swarthout and Lyla Swarthout; her sister-in-law, Beverlee Jenkins, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Wes. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, June 15th, at 11:00 AM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services 205 E. Maple St. Climax, MI 49034, with an hour to visit with her family from 10:00-11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or a charity of your choice, in memory of Sandy.
