Sandra "Sandy" Allana Huckaby Mitchell, age 61, of Meansville, passed June 18, 2025. Sandy grew up in Decatur and graduated from Southwest DeKalb High School where she was a majorette. She amazed the crowds by twirling her fire baton at the football games.
In her early career, Sandy worked in the finance department for the DeKalb County government. She later worked in the commercial cleaning business where she met her husband, Ronnie. They married in 1993 and moved to Meansville that same year. Sandy took a job in the Pike County Probate Office in 2000 and was currently Chief Clerk of Probate Court. She was a dedicated public servant who arrived at the courthouse every morning by 5:30 to open all the doors and get ready for the day.
Sandy also served the town of Meansville as a City Council member. A position she held for 21 years. She cared greatly about her community and was always supportive of the fire department and other public services. Sandy enjoyed working in her yard and shopping with her mom. She especially enjoyed buying clothes and makeup.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie Mitchell, parents, Allan Thomas Huckaby and Barbara Stowe Huckaby.
She is survived by her brothers: Scott Huckaby (Glenda) and Brent Huckaby (Evalina); nieces: Catherine Benton (Kade), Georgie Brogdon (Dillan) and Chloe Huckaby; great-nephew and great-niece: Boone and Brylee Brogdon; sisters-in-law: Anita Mitchell and Rama Mitchell; aunt: Janice Cambron; cousins: Jenny Hardegree and Rob Cambron.
Sandy is also survived by all of her friends at the courthouse who were like family to her.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 3 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Fincher Memorial Cemetery in Meansville.
Friends may visit the family on Saturday, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., at the funeral home. ***CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE SERVICE FOR SANDY HELD ON JUNE 21, AT 3 P.M. ***
