It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sandra (Sandy) Marie Speltz, who left us peacefully on October 21, 2025. Sandy was a devoted sister, loyal friend, and respected professional whose kindness, intelligence, and steady spirit touched the lives of everyone who knew her.
Born in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, to Ben and Nancy (Krieger) Speltz. The family moved to New Hampton in 1958, and Sandy attended St. Joseph's Catholic School, which was just across the street from their home. Sandy graduated from New Hampton High School in 1974 and went on to earn a degree in Business/Accounting from the University of Northern Iowa. Her strong work ethic and sharp mind led her to a distinguished career with the Veterans Administration, where she served in Washington, D.C., Chicago, and Des Moines. During her tenure, she made a lasting impact through her leadership and dedication, ultimately serving as Chief Financial Officer of the VA Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Sandy's commitment to excellence and her care for those who served our country were evident in all she did.
After many years of service, Sandy joined her sister Laurie in their shared creative business, helping to grow and guide it for over 35 years. While Laurie focused on the artistic side, Sandy oversaw the financial and administrative operations. Together, they built a successful and well-loved business that has brought joy to decorative painters and crafters worldwide.
Sandy will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her unwavering dependability, and the quiet strength she brought to every endeavor. She was a woman of integrity, compassion, and grace. She was someone who worked hard, loved her family and friends deeply, relied on her deep faith, and made the world a little brighter just by being in it. She loved her Iowa Hawkeyes and enjoyed watching Caitlin Clark rise to fame.
Sandy was a quiet force who loved traveling from coast to coast. She loved meeting up with friends and sharing good times sightseeing along the way. She loved a good Broadway show, a Disney Park, a ballgame, time at the ocean, or a nice dinner with friends. No matter where she was, you could always count on her sharing her gentle smile and joy.
Sandy will be remembered for her quiet strength, wisdom, and deep devotion to her family and friends. Her kindness, integrity, and steady presence enriched the lives of all who knew her.
She is survived by her sister Laurie Speltz of Des Moines, IA, and was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
