Sanford Rollin Barr of St. Augustine, FL passed away on May 27, 2025, at the age of 75. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Brenda Hendrix Barr; his son, Brad Barr; and his brother, Kevin Barr.
Born on June 25, 1949, Sanford lived a life defined by quiet strength, unwavering integrity, and deep devotion-to his family, his faith, and, through his civil service, to his fellow citizens. He answered his nation's call to duty with honor, serving more than two decades in the United States Navy, beginning shortly after the start of the Vietnam War. The sacrifices of service were real, but his work in aviation and technology-lifelong passions of his-gave that sacrifice meaning.
After retiring from the Navy, Sanford continued his civil service at the United States Postal Service, working faithfully until retirement.
In 2010, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer-a prognosis that rarely grants years, let alone more than a decade. But Sanford met each day with remarkable resolve, enduring far beyond expectations through sheer will, faith, and a quiet refusal to give in.
He was a gentle soul, calm in demeanor but anchored by deep resilience. He had an innate curiosity for how things worked, a trait that made him naturally self-reliant and exceptionally skilled with his hands. Whether fixing, building, or simply figuring things out, he approached every task with care and competence. His faith, steady and sincere, was a quiet constant throughout his life-sustaining him in hardship and shaping his strength.
Sanford leaves behind a legacy of perseverance, humility, and love. Even in the face of hardship, he never stopped showing up, never stopped learning, and never stopped loving those around him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
