Sara Hughes, 90 of Dawsonville passed peacefully on January 24 at her home surrounded by her family.
Sara was born July 17, 1934, in Forsyth County to the late Ford Ervin and Nancy Pearl Phillips. She graduated from Cumming High school before becoming a beautician. In 1955 she married Billy Hughes settling in Dawson County where she remained until her death. Along with her husband, they operated a poultry and cattle farm until 1984 when they opened Sanky's store along GA 400. After the death of her husband in 1986 she operated the store with her family until she retired in 2005. In 2002 she welcomed Gene Anderson into her life and they became life partners until her death. She will be remembered as someone who saw the good in everybody. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Anderson and a brother Jim Phillips.
She is survived by her life partner, Gene Anderson and his daughter, Gena Woodman; sons and daughters in law, Billy and Kaye Hughes and Rocky and Cheryl Hughes all of Dawsonville, and David Hughes of Athens. Grandchildren, Judd and Gloria Hughes and Rocksy and Rick Smith. Great grandchildren, Andrew, Alex and Pearl Hughes and Rori and Ronan Smith all of Dawsonville. Special friend and neighbor, Tommie B. Smith.
The Family will receive friends Wednesday, January 29, 2025 from 4 until 8 at the funeral home.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family asks to please omit flowers. Donations in Sara's memory may be made to your favorite charity.
