Sarah Jane Goins, affectionately known as Mama, Granny, and Doll, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2025, in
Fayetteville, North Carolina, at the age of 92.
Born on May 3, 1932, in Moore County, North Carolina, Sarah Jane was the heart and soul of her family. She found joy in life's simple pleasures-sewing, quilting, cooking for her loved ones, tending her garden, and growing beautiful flowers. Her kitchen was a place of comfort and connection, where the smell of collards on the stove, the taste of fried chicken and fish, and the warmth of freshly kneaded biscuits became treasured family memories. She was a longtime member of Cape Fear Baptist Church and a steadfast example of faith and love.
To her husband, Henry-whom she lovingly called "Honey"-she was simply "Doll." Together, they shared 58 wonderful years of partnership, laughter, and unwavering devotion until his passing in 2009.
Sarah Jane was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Henry N. Goins; her parents, Mattie and James Goins; and her siblings, Helen Jones, Sadie Emmanuel, Frances Smiling, Ethel Jones, Gertis Brewington, Paulette Dial, and Clyde Goins.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and togetherness. Surviving family members include her sister Barbara Gibbs of Titusville, FL; her brother James Cecil Goins of Raleigh, NC; and her daughters, Carol Starnes (Emmett) and Kaye Daughtry (Tommy). She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Kim Starnes (Sean), Emmett "Buckey" Starnes III (Holly), SarahMarie "Ree" Barbour (Chad), and Tommy "TJ" Daughtry Jr. (Anna); and her great-grandchildren: Nate, AbbiKate, Tommy III "Tres", Chase, Emma, Paul, and Cannon. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
To know Sarah Jane was to be fed, to be hugged, and to be loved. Her presence brought warmth and comfort to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
