Sarah Howell Obituary

Visit the Decatur Funeral Home and Cremation Services website to view the full obituary.

Sarah Frances Scott Howell, age 99, of Decatur, Tennessee, who departed this life on November 15, 2025. Born on March 29, 1926, Sarah was the beloved daughter of the late Carl and Willie Mae Scott. A member of Decatur First Baptist Church, she embodied the spirit of devotion as a wife, mother, and a 5 generation grandmother.

Throughout her life, Sarah derived joy from a multitude of hobbies, including working on puzzles, painting landscapes, and crafting pottery. She found peace and contentment in sewing and often delighted in sitting on her front porch, reveling in the beauty of nature. A proud descendant of John Scott, who bravely fought in the Revolutionary War, Sarah's legacy of service and strength continued through her husband, Harold Howell, who served in the Navy during World War II.

Sarah is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 72 years, Harold Howell, and her siblings: Clyde Scott, Roy Scott, Betty "Sue" Bean, and Martin Scott. She is also preceded by her cherished daughter-in-law, Hope Brownlow Howell, and son-in-law, TJ "Dick" Lambert.

She is survived by her sons and their spouses, Charles Howell, David W. and Dianne Howell, and Dennis and Mendy Howell, as well as her daughter, Jenny Lambert. Sarah leaves behind a legacy of love through her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

A graveside service in honor of Sarah's life will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Bethsadia Cemetery.
