Sarah S. Jenkins

Sarah "Sue" S. Jenkins 11/6/1921 - 12/6/2024 Sue passed peacefully in her sleep on December 6th, 2024 after a beautiful and vibrant life spanning over 103 years. She was a lifetime resident and the 2021 Hometown Legend of Wenonah, NJ. As a graduate of the Woodbury High School Class of 1939, she worked in the laboratory at DuPont prior to enlisting in the Navy in 1943 via the WAVES (Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Services) during WWII. For many years she said she was simply a secretary when in actuality she was involved in the top secret cracking of enemy code. She was one of the famous 'code girls'.
Sue went on to to marry the love of her life, Robert T. Jenkins, Sr. Together they raised their three sons, Bob, Mike, and Tom, in Wenonah. Sue was extremely involved in too many activities to name and could always be found enjoying the company of good friends and family. She was an active member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church of Wenonah, various groups including the Monday Club and the Historical Society of Wenonah. Sue was an avid bridge player and a voracious reader. She always took delight in the arrival of new books at the Wenonah Library.
Above all, Sue loved her family and friends dearly. She is reunited with her parents, Theodore and Estella Shearer (nee Souder), her five siblings, her late husband Robert T. Jenkins, Sr., and her late son, Robert T. Jenkins, Jr.. She is dearly missed by the many loved ones she leaves behind including her sons, Michael Jenkins and Thomas Jenkins, grandchildren, Brian Whaley, Lauren Jenkins, and Rebecca Jenkins, and great grandchildren, Ashton, Pierce, Bobbi, and Blake. All are welcome to celebrate her beautiful life on Friday, December 13th, 2024 at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Wenonah, 202 E. Mantua Ave., Wenonah, NJ. Visitation at 10 am, services at 11 am, and lunch to follow.
