Sarah Joan Shipman Rosser, Joan to her friends, passed peacefully away on November 9, 2025. Joan was born on December 21, 1932, to Alfred John Shipman and Sarah Ann Garratt in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, England. She married her sweetheart, Sterling L. Rosser on February 14, 1958, in the Salt Lake Temple.
Joan emigrated with her father from England when she was only 16, spending the first 17 months in the U.S. without her mother and sister. She had already left school by 14 and had become a secretary, working until she started a family as a legal secretary. She and Sterling were blessed with two daughters, Ann and Diane, before Sterling passed away from cancer.
Joan was a faithful, active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings, mainly in the Relief Society, where she enjoyed serving the ladies of her ward. She had a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Joan loved people and made many friends wherever she went, keeping up correspondence all over the world for many years later. She loved to travel, do crafts, and later in life, knitted slippers and crocheted hats for the Humanitarian Center. Joan was very proud of her English heritage and was involved for many years with the British Missions Association, and many people appreciated her British humor.
She is survived by her daughters, Ann Rosser (Salt Lake City) and Diane (Karl) Nebeker (West Jordan), and two grandchildren, Elder Sterling Nebeker and Sarah Nebeker. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters: baby Ann and Dorothy Deien, and her husband, Sterling L. Rosser.
We would like to thank the Intermountain Health Hospice Team for their dedication, love, and support in caring for our mother.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Memorial’s Redwood Mortuary: 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah. You may visit with the family at a viewing beginning at 10:00 AM.
