Sarah Keeter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory - Downtown Suffolk on Jan. 8, 2026.
Sarah Dale Keeter, 93, of Waverly, Virginia, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025. She was born on January 10, 1932, to the late Claude H. and Jennie Bailey Dale.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Virginia Dale, Patsy Dale, and C.H. Dale, Jr.
She was the beloved wife of Franklin D. Keeter, with whom she shared 65 years of marriage. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and service to the Waverly community.
Sarah was a devoted mother to three children: Sarah (Alex), Frank (Jessica), and David. She was a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren and a cherished great-grandmother to five great-grandchildren.
A graduate of Meredith College, Sarah valued education and lifelong learning. She was deeply involved in the Waverly community, co-owning Southside Grocery and Keeter's Deli, businesses that became familiar and welcoming places for many. She also served on the Sussex County Electoral Board and was an active and supportive parent at Tidewater Academy.
Sarah was a faithful member of Waverly Congregation Christian Church, where she taught Women's Bible Study for many years and sang soprano in the choir for decades, sharing her love of music and worship with her church family.
She found joy in life's simple and meaningful pleasures-long walks in the woods, sewing, playing classical piano, preparing healthy scratch-made meals, and caring deeply for all animals. Her energetic spirit, creativity, and quiet strength touched everyone who knew her.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff of Chelsea Health Care Center for their compassionate care and kindness.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Condolences may be registered at RWBakerFH.com.
