Sarah Louise Leavy

Sarah Louise Leavy, of Rockford departed this earthly life September 16, 2025. She was born July 2, 1962 in Rockford the daughter of Loubrida Leavy and Ivory Smith. Sarah was employed as a cook sharing her love for cooking with everyone. She was a faithful member of Starlight Missionary Baptist Church most of her life, under the leadership of Rev. Rob Ellis until his passing. Sarah had continued her journey in Christ at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Louis Malone. She served as a dedicated choir member. Sarah loved playing basketball and softball. She enjoyed singing, cooking, driving and decorating. Sarah attended Rockford Public Schools, later to receive her GED.

Sarah leaves to cherish many loving memories her daughter, Youlonda Leavy; two sons, Derell and Antonio Leavy; 23 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; special family friends who she loved like her own children, Antowan Lambert and Shalonda (Poola) Glover; eight sisters, Alberta Collins, Roberta Leavy, Lori (Greg) Carter, Kim (Frank) Richards and Sheila (Phillip) Barrie, Lydia (Perry) Grove, Leona Streeter, Elaine Smith (Edward) Tucker; sister in law, Yvette Johnson; five brothers, Louis and Darnell Leavy, Ivory Smith Jr., Jesse Leach and Leon, (Shalonda) Smith; special aunt, Wanda Mae Simmons: special cousin, Brenda McMillian; a host of nieces, nephews cousins other relatives and friends including special friend and companion, Ned Jackson; good friends, Sonya Marshall, Deshanterra Stevens, Evette Taylor, Sharon Allen and Yvette Johnson. She was predeceased by her parents, Loubrida Leavy and father Ivory Smith Sr; grandson, Antowan Lambert Jr;. sister, Maxine Leavy; and brothers, Victor Leavy, Willie "BB" and Earl Leavy; and nephew, Greg Carter Jr.

Services will be held 12:00 p.m. Thursday, October 9, 2025 at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church 2919 19th Street. Burial in Cedar Bluff Cemetery. Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Arrangements completed by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home Inc. 200 N. Johnston Ave.
