Sarah Smith, 89, of Louisville, KY, passed away on March 23rd, 2025. Sarah was surrounded by love and admiration from family, friends, and teachers as she grew up. Sarah developed into an ever-cheerful, hardworking, generous, and capable young woman. A graduate of Presentation Academy, she was a member of the choral club. After retiring from Rite-Way Equipment Company, she devoted her time to volunteering at the Red Cross and Ronald McDonald House. A talented seamstress, Sarah created beautiful pieces for Threads of Love and was known for her selflessness and ability to make others feel special.
Over the years, she continued to use her skills, faith, reverence, compassion, understanding, resilience, and cleverness to be a wonderful wife, mother, friend, employee, volunteer, and neighbor. Preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Frances Russell, son Timmy, sister Kitty Schulz, and brother Bill Russell.
Sarah is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Don, their children Ken (Anne), Diane (Mark), Andy (Camille), Mary, and Michael, as well as grandchildren Dane, Averi, Alex, Ian, Amy, and Nathan, and seven great-grandchildren. Sarah's legacy of kindness, warmth, and devotion will live on through her loved ones.
A visitation will be held at the Ratterman and Sons funeral home (3800 Bardstown Rd. 40218) on Friday, March 28th from 4-8 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on Saturday, March 29th at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in her honor may be made out to Presentation Academy and the Alzheimer's Association.

To the family of Sarah, It breaks my heart to see this. I first met Sarah at Belmont Village where I served her her meals. She always was welling to talk she was such a sweet person. Then I started working at McAlister's Deli, where I seen her & Don on Saturday nights, it put a smile on my face when I seen them..She will be missed! Sending my sympathy to the whole family.
