Jane Grimm Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home - St. Matthews on Jan. 29, 2026.
Jane Finney Grimm passed away peacefully on January 20, 2026, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of faith, service, music, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her life was defined by conviction, generosity, and a steadfast commitment to living out her Catholic faith in both word and action.

Born in Louisville to Cecelia Blanche and Henry Finney, Jane graduated from St. Agnes School and Presentation Academy, later attending Ursuline College. In 1958, she married the love of her life, Martin Joseph Grimm, and together they welcomed ten children over the next two decades. Their marriage was a partnership rooted in faith, family, and the quiet joys of daily life. They loved traveling, supporting one another's interests, and nurturing a strong Catholic home filled with music, laughter, and prayer.

Jane and Marty spent their early married years in California while Marty served in the Air Force. They returned to Louisville in 1961 and became founding members of St. Martha Catholic Church. Jane quickly emerged as a dedicated pro-life advocate, devoting more than fifty years to the movement at the parish, county, and state levels. In Kentucky, she served in several leadership roles, including President of Kentucky Right to Life (1984–1988), and received the Kentucky Educational Foundation Award in 1986.

In 1988, the family relocated to Cambridge, Ohio, for Marty's work with Colgate-Palmolive. Jane continued her pro-life mission with the same energy and conviction, serving in leadership roles with Guernsey County Right to Life and Ohio Right to Life, where she was President from 1996 to 2004. She poured countless hours into education, newsletters, events, prayer vigils, legislative outreach, and speaking engagements.

Music was one of Jane's greatest gifts, and she shared it generously. A 36-year parishioner of Christ Our Light Parish in Cambridge, she served as a choir member and organist from 1988 to 2020, playing for Masses, weddings, funerals, and nursing home visits. She also performed with the Cambridge City Band and supported the Cambridge Performing Arts Centre, serving on its board and appearing in productions.

In 2024, Jane returned to Louisville to receive the memory care she needed. Even in assisted living, her joy was unmistakable. She played piano for fellow residents, often taking requests, and delighted in sharing stories of her life.

Jane was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Martin Joseph Grimm; her brothers John (Jack), Charles, and James (Bud) Finney; and her sister Mary Ann Finney.

She is survived by her sister Mary Agnes (Robert) Hanks; her ten children and thirty-one grandchildren, Donald (Susan) Grimm of Katy, TX; Blakely, Eric, Mary Katherine, David (Teresa) Grimm of Augusta, GA; Ashlyn, Michael, Anna, Terrence (Ruth) Grimm of Lexington, KY; Emily, Jacqueline, Meredith, Samuel, Thomas (Lisa) Grimm of Collegeville, PA; Abby, Matt, Ben, Steven (Tracy) Grimm of Louisville, KY; Meagan, Kaitlin, Kevin (Jackie) Grimm of Houston, TX; Jacob, Elena Daniel (Kris) Grimm of Louisville, KY; Evan, Drew, Colin, Aaron, Caleb, Karen (Patrick) Goggin of Cambridge, OH; Joseph, John, Kelly, James, Julie Grimm of Houston, TX, Jennifer (Andrew) Tuschong of Davidson, NC; Katherine, Grace, Caroline, Luke, Madelyn along with 8 great-grandchildren.

Jane's life was a testament to faith lived boldly, love expressed through service, and perseverance anchored in hope. Her legacy endures in her family, her music, and the countless lives she touched through her unwavering commitment to the sanctity of life.
