Sarita Vega, a lifelong resident of Chimayo, NM, was called to be with the Lord on October 12, 2023, at the age of 85. Sarita was preceded in death by her husband Alfonso Cordova; son, Alfonso Cordova Jr., parents, Norberto, and Aurora Martinez; sister, Stella Martinez, and husband, Ismael; brother, Salomon Martinez, and wife Pauline Martinez; brother, Lorenzo Martinez, and wife Jenny Martinez; sister-in-law Celina Martinez; and grandson Bruce D. Mondragon.
Sarita is survived by her daughter, Sandra Cordova, sisters, Rita Munoz, and Oralia Fernandez, and brothers, Genaro Martinez, and Ernesto and wife Maria Martinez. Grandchildren, Waldy Mondragon (Julia), Jolene, and Allen Romero, Great-grandchildren, Kevin Martinez Jr. (Vanessa), Jaydon Romero, Justice, Waldy Jr the 2nd., Juanito, Santiago, and Esperanza Mondragon, Monte, and Adrianna Maes. Great- Great Grandchild, Emily Martinez, and numerous other relatives and friends.
Sarita served in the United States Army. She also worked at the Espanola Public Schools where she retired at 25 years. Sarita was a very loving and wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-great-grandmother. She loved her family and was very accepting of all. She enjoyed the company of her many nieces, nephews, and siblings who made visits and telephone calls. Sarita had a lot of faith in God, and she was very wise beyond her years.

A public visitation will take place on Thursday October 26, 2023, at 5:00 pm in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home and a rosary to follow at 6:00 pm. A mass of Christian burial will take place on Friday October 27, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo and burial to follow at the Nuestra Senora de Dolores Cemetery.
