Gregorio Jose Valdez February 27, 1947 – October 13, 2025, With great love and deep sadness, the family of Gregorio Jose Valdez, age 78, announces his passing. Gregorio was born in Canjilon, New Mexico, to Jose and Lugarda Valdez, and lived a life devoted to faith, family, and hard work.
Gregorio is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Irma and their children: Gregorio Jr (Tanya), Pauline (Steve), Loretta (Jeffrey), Angela, Patricia, and Reba (Hunter).
He was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy. He is also survived by his sisters Felima Villarreal and Demecia Valdez, his nephew JoJo Valdez and his Archuleta family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Lugarda Valdez; sister Lena Cordova; brothers-in-law Jimmy Cordova, Oswaldo Almeida and Roberto Villareal; father- and mother-in-law Pablino and Margaret Archuleta; brothers-in-law Leroy, Felix, and Juan Archuleta; and sister-in-law Lorraine Pacheco, his nieces Maria Elena Villareal and Maria Elena Rodela and Marcella Maez. A proud husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Gregorio’s warmth, humor, and quiet strength touched everyone who knew him. Gregorio was a highly decorated U.S. Army combat Veteran who bravely served in Vietnam, and later dedicated 31 years of service to the U.S. Forest Service. He will be remembered for his gentle wisdom, generous heart, and unwavering devotion to family. Whether sharing stories, lending a helping hand, or simply sitting in the comfort of loved ones, Gregorio’s presence was a steady and comforting light to all around him.
Pallbearers are Gregorio Jr., Kevin Valdez, Kraig Valdez, Dorsett Valdez, Noah Garner, Chris Clark, Ernesto Archuleta, and Joseph Martinez. Gregorio’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him, and his spirit will continue to guide and inspire those he leaves behind.
A public viewing will take place on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. and a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church in Canjilon, NM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Santo Niño Catholic Church in Cebolla, NM.
