It is with great sorrow to announce the sudden passing of Scott Patrick Bates, of Gloucester Township, on August 16th, 2025 at the age of 46.

Loving father of Kathleen (Katie), Scott Jr., and Brooke Bates. Devoted son of John and Karen (nee Kelly). Beloved brother of Tracy Kellem (Dan), Johnny (Stacey), and Troy. Fun loving uncle to his niece Alyssa Bates, and nephews Shane Bates, Danny, AJ, and Ryan Kellem. He is also survived by a number of family and friends, including the mother of his children, Jennifer (Alexander) Bates, and his favorite aunt, Joan Kelly.

Scott was raised in Runnemede where he was a graduate of Triton Regional High School, Class of 1997. He began a career as a carpenter, remodeling homes until pursuing a career in corrections. He spent ten years as a Juvenile Detention Officer at the Camden County Youth Detention Center until his retirement.

The center of his world, and his greatest pride and joy, was being a father to his three children. He tried to make every day special for them, in any way that he could. He loved spending time with them, singing along to their favorite songs, swimming, fishing, and enjoying every moment. He cherished every adventure together, making every moment memorable, whether it was a trip to the zoo or Poconos, or playing cards and boardgames. He was an avid football fan and loved watching the Eagles play. He brought fun to every situation and always had everyone laughing.

There will be a viewing on Saturday, August 23, from 10am to 12pm, at Gardner Funeral Home in Runnemede. Funeral Service to follow at 12pm. Interment, Calvary Cemetery, Cherry Hill.

Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made in Scott's memory, to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105. www.Stjude.org/donate (http://www.stjude.org/donate)
