Scott Russell Douglass, age 76, died at Duke Health’s Hock Family Pavillion on April 26, 2025. He was born on February 2, 1949 and adopted by the late Dorothy Mae Douglass and late William Ross Douglass.
Scott graduated from Glenbard East High School in Illinois, had two degrees from the University of Delaware and worked on a PhD at Syracuse University. The early part of his career included being Budget Director for the City of Wilmington, Delaware under Mayor Daniel S Frawley and Budget Director and Secretary of Finance for Governor Michael N Castle. He then worked at the University of Pennsylvania twice: the first time as Associate Dean for Finance and Administration for The Wharton School and later as Vice President of Finance for the university and the second time as Chief Financial & Operating Officer for The Wharton School. In between he was also Executive Vice President at the University of Delaware and Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administration at NC State University. Just prior to his death, as his retirement job, he was serving as Interim Vice President of Finance and Administration for Southwestern University.
Sports, both as participant and fan, gave Scott great pleasure. Beyond his lifelong devotion to the Chicago Bears, he enjoyed being a high school and briefly, college wrestler, and playing rugby for 10 years at the University of Delaware and with the Syracuse Rogues and Wilmington (Delaware) Rugby Club.
Scott is survived by his wife Elizabeth Douglass, children Evan Douglass, Meghan Douglass, Ryan Douglass, Caitlin Douglass and grandchildren.
