On March 14, 2025, Scott David Herwick, age 56, captained his final flight to heaven while surrounded by family.
Scott was born in Virginia on Christmas,1968 to Paul and Caryl (Thompson) Herwick. He went on to graduate from West Aurora High School in 1986, before graduating from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 1991 with a bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Science. On March 12, 1994, Scott married Karin (Wilson) Herwick of Sugar Grove. They made their home in North Aurora.
Over the course of 40 years, Scott flew a variety of airplanes both professionally and recreationally. He spent 20 years flying for the Boeing Company, where he was a strong advocate for safety measures in the aviation industry. Scott left an indelible mark on the people he shared the sky with during his time as a pilot.
Throughout his life, Scott visited 5 different continents, exploring some of the world's biggest cities and most exotic countries. He spent most of his time traveling, but while he was home he loved socializing with his many friends and spending quality time with his family. He was always rooting for his lifelong favorite Chicago Cubs, as well as the Dallas Cowboys. Scott also enjoyed NASCAR, golfing, and watching Tiger Woods play on TV. He had a passion for meteorology and loved to watch storms roll by.
Scott is survived by his loving wife Karin and son Ryan Herwick of North Aurora, his parents Dr. Paul and Caryl Herwick, his brother Dr. Steven Herwick and wife Dr. Nimi Herwick, his mother in-law Kathi Wilson, sister in-law Molly (John) Nelson, brother in-law Mark Harrington, his nieces and nephews Sonali, Kiran, Devan, Emily (Nathan) Sarkisian, Ben, Andrew, Anna, and one great nephew, Jack.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Quay and Catherine Herwick, maternal grandparents Dorothy and Robert Thompson, his father in-law Gary Wilson, and his sister in-law Julie Harrington.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Moss-Norris Funeral Home 100 S. 3rd Street in St. Charles IL from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by a memorial service there. Pastor Melissa Meyers of Batavia United Methodist Church will conduct the service. Internment will follow at River Hills Memorial Park in Batavia IL
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family in care of Karin Herwick. All donations will go to the Scott Herwick Memorial Scholarship, which will soon be established and will provide aspiring young pilots with opportunities to break into the aviation world and build connections.

SDH, when I checked the schedule and saw that I was on a trip with you it always brought a smile to my face, I knew it would be a good trip. Your acerbic, (caustic maybe sometimes?), whit, tempered with with your kindness and respect for all around you, branded you as the epitome of a "good guy". You are loved, respected and mourned and will be truly missed by the folks you encountered in your all too short time here. Hope to see you again.

Knob,

College seemed like yesterday and the news of your passing brought back many memories of those years. ERAU, ROTC, Cubs, moving off campus, driving back to Chicago from FL - all very good memories.

I will miss Scotty´s awesome smile. Not a better guy to have a Budweiser with on the planet. Always fun hearing Scott and Kennedy banter about the White Sox and Cubs. I miss that and will miss Scott. May God bring peace to his family at this tough time.

Great pilot, but an even better person. It's difficult to realize that we won't be paired on a flight again. He will forever be missed.
