HOUGHTELING, Scott L. -- Age 56 of Flint, departed this earth June 15, 2024. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make contributions to D.A.V Charitable Service Trust, Children of Fallen Patriots, local VFW chapter, or McNally Hospitality House of Covenant Hospital in Saginaw, MI.
Scott was born November 17, 1967 in Flint, to parents Leslie and Delinda (Trotter) Houghteling. Scott spent his childhood in Flint and was a 1986 graduate of Carman-Ainsworth High School. In the winter following graduation, Scott proudly enlisted to serve his country as a United States Marine. He was an active service member for 5 years, battling along side his Brothers in Arms in the Gulf War and Desert Storm, with additional deployments to Okinawa, Japan and to the Philippines. He later committed to 5 years of service in the United States Marines Reserves. Scott made his career in Construction Safety Management where he traveled the country, overseeing projects such as the Atlanta Falcons Stadium, Cobol Arena, and Michigan Central Station.
Scott was an avid family man, and a friend to everyone he met. He was a true gentleman and was known for his generosity amongst his family, friends, and even the most brief of acquaintances. He was always the first to step in to defend and protect someone. Scott’s passions included gardening, cooking, live music, and traveling. He never missed an opportunity to make a memory. Amongst those passions in life, he also had an unwavering love for his daughter and son, granddaughters, brother and sister-in-law, and nephews. On June 19, 2021, after 9 years of life together, Scott married his forever love, Sherri, in their backyard in Flint, MI amongst family and friends, and they shared three more beautiful years together before he departed this earth. His presence, his laugh, and his love will be greatly missed, but his honor will live on through each and every person who knew him.
Scott is survived by his beloved wife Sherri Houghteling; daughter, Haley Houghteling-Allen; son, Scott Houghteling; granddaughters, Leila, Lucy and Cora; brother, Chad (Patsy) Houghteling; nephews, Avery, Aaron, Zachary; and his dogs Mattis and Gunner.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
