Scott Lee "Downstate" Jackson, 61, of Weirton, passed away on April 12, 2024, at JW Ruby Memorial Hospital, after a brief battle with liver cancer.
He was born on February 10, 1963, in Wheeling West Virginia, one of two beloved sons born to Leland and Rebecca Riggle Jackson.
Scott's life was marked by dedication and adventure. After graduating from Brooke High School in 1981, he embarked on a career with the Ball Corporation, where he worked tirelessly as a press operator for over three decades.
Yet, Scott's true passion lay beyond the confines of the factory floor. Since the tender age of seven, he found solace and joy in the art of hunting, often venturing into the wilderness of the family farm in Tyler County, West Virginia. His love for hunting knew no bounds, taking him across North America and on two unforgettable safaris in Africa. He took immense pride in his collection of 21 trophies, each representing a cherished memory from his adventures abroad.
But Scott's interests extended far beyond the thrill of the hunt. He found immense joy in the open road, cruising on his Harley-Davidson Ultra-Glide. He also cherished the serene moments spent fishing at Geneva on the Lake with his closest friends.
A dedicated sports fan, Scott's heartbeat for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates, as well as the WVU Mountaineers. His enthusiasm for his teams was infectious, bringing joy to every game-day gathering.
In recent years, Scott found fulfillment in his role at the Brooke County Department of Highways, where he continued to serve his community with dedication and pride.
Scott's generosity knew no bounds. He had a vast network of friends in Tyler County, always ready to lend a helping hand whenever needed. Whether rescuing lost souls on his property or pulling strangers out of the mud, Scott's presence was a beacon of warmth and support.
Scott Lee "Downstate" Jackson will be remembered not only for his adventurous spirit and unwavering dedication but also for his kindness, generosity, and infectious zest for life. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
In addition to his parents, Scott was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John and Mary Jackson, and maternal grandparents, Harold and Melanie Riggle, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Scott is survived by his loving wife, Bernadine Sasyn Jackson, his brother Sean Jackson of Wellsburg, his Uncle Lonney and Aunt Madeline Jackson and Uncle Gene Riggs, and a host of family and extended family of Tyler County who will carry his memory in their hearts forever.
Scott's request for cremation will be honored.
He will be cremated at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home Crematory, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV.
A celebration of Scott's life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society at donate.cancer.org or the Rosenbaum Family House, 30 Family House Drive, Morgantown, WV 26506.
