Scott David Lewis, 65, lost his battle with renal cancer peacefully at Transitions LifeCare, Raleigh, North Carolina, on 10/25/2024, his 37th anniversary with his wife, Ginny. He was surrounded by his family, sons Ryan and Brendan, daughter Kerrin, sister Phyllis Seaman of Naples, Florida, and her two daughters, Kimber Klein of Melville, Long Island and Sloan Warren of London, England, and his brother Stephen Lewis and his wife Enid of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and their daughters, Sara Pennington of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Elaina Rivera of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Scott was born in Bethpage, L.I., lived in Amityville, and later in North Miami Beach, Florida, Flushing and Bayside, Queens, New York. After marrying, he lived in St. James, Long Island from 1989 - 2003, moving with his family to Apex, North Carolina, residing there 21 years until his death. His employment history was diverse, but he specialized in IT, his last job being an Operations Support Specialist for Northrup Grumman, a third-party contractor to the USPS in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Scott's passion was live music. He had an eclectic taste in music covering many different genres of music from classical to jazz to bluegrass, but his favorite was rock n' roll jam bands. He followed the Grateful Dead from his teens till Jerry Garcia's death, having seen 450 live shows across the country. His other favorite band was Widespread Panic having followed them with Ginny from 2006 to March 2024 having seen 299 shows, eight of which were at the Hard Rock in Maya Riviera, Mexico. He was a well-known contributor to their message board, WSP Phantasy Tour, being known as "Aikox2," and was known for recounting his colorful and detailed experiences on tour. His other passion was enjoying nature, particularly the mountains, having visited numerous national parks out west. He also loved his dogs and cats.
Scott was a loving husband and father, hardworking, providing for his family. He was known for his frugalness and quick wit and humor. He was a great cook and was like a big kid, enjoying many trips to Disney World. He was a great Jewish Santa, and he could fix anything mechanically. He never forgot a special occasion. He could always be seen wearing a colorful tie-dyed shirt or Hawaiian shirt and sandals. He also many times would end his emails with a quote from a Grateful Dead song; i.e., "If the Thunder don't get you, then the lightning will."
It is comforting for his family to think that he and Phil Lesh, a founding member of the Grateful Dead who passed the same day, will be traveling on The Golden Road (to unlimited devotion) together. He will be greatly missed!

I first met Scott after an online only relationship of swapping stories from Grateful Dead and Widespread Panic tour years. It was in Las Vegas in 2018 during a Panic run. I sat with him and Ginny for a bit of setbreak, just talking. He felt just like he did to me online - a brother from another mother.

We had a ton of shared, but separate, experiences in life and were in the same place at the same time without knowing each other over many parts of our lives.

The last time I saw Scott, was at Durham NC spring 2023 - also during a Panic show. We spent most of setbreak walking the halls and chatting and on that day I thought I had a friend for life.

He was taken too soon after that, but I thought about him often over the years. I will think about him often going forward. I feel sad he is gone. I want to hear more of his amazing life stories. I will miss him. Fare Thee Well spiritual brother.
