Scott Miller Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Olsen-Gibson Funeral Home on Feb. 3, 2026.
Scott A. Miller, Sr., 71 of Jefferson, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Sunset Ridge in Jefferson.

Scott was born on August 9, 1954, in Dubois, PA, the son of Donald and Beverly (Peterson) Miller. He attended Deerfield High School in Illinois, played football and baseball there (fondly known as "Hawk" by members of his team), graduating in 1972. He continued his education at Western Illinois University in McComb, IL, earning a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education in 1976. While at WIU, he played baseball, was an active member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity and organized and ran the "Make Me Smile" fundraiser – a wildly successful event that benefitted the university and many local charitable causes. He met Deborah Arndt at WIU, and the couple married on November 25, 1978, in her hometown of Lagrange, IL. Scott worked in the food industry as a transportation manager, both for the McDonald's Corp and US Foods. He retired in 2016. Scott was an avid golfer and enjoyed many courses, both near and far, but especially loved Meadow Springs Golf Course. A lover of all thing's baseball, Scott followed the Chicago Cubs closely and coached many of his children's teams. Sunday's were often spent watching the Chicago Bears, deep in Packers country. Scott had many friends and enjoyed dinners out, golfing together, and game nights, but his claim to fame was his EPIC backyard parties! These events that were looked forward to by all, demanded an early mark on many calendars, and his creative games thrilled the masses! Above all other interests, was his family. Scott's dedication to his wife and children's wellbeing survive as a lasting testimony to his character. He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by: his wife Deb Miller of Jefferson; children Scott A. Miller, Jr. of Jefferson, Kara (Chris) Souther of Livermore, CA, and Steven Miller of Jefferson; grandchildren Scott A. "Sam" Miller, III, Ava Miller, Ethan Miller, Adelaide Souther, and Lyla Souther; siblings Jeff (Rita) Miller of Dallas, TX, Tim (Pam) Miller of Beloit, Kim McKeel of Loris, SC, Andrea (Dave) Pfeiffer of Park Ridge, IL, and Jill Caldwell of Barrington, IL. Scott is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

In leau of flowers, donations to Rainbow Hospice would be greatly appreciated.

A private family service will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, with Chaplain Steve Steele presiding. A public friends and family gathering from 12:00PM – 4:00PM will follow at Woolen Mills (222 Wisconsin Dr. Jefferson, WI 53549)
