Scott Samuel Murray

Scott Samuel Murray, 62, passed away peacefully at his home in Charlotte, North Carolina, on January 4, 2026. Born in Asheville, North Carolina, Scott will return to his birthplace be laid to rest alongside his beloved father, Cecil Murray, who preceded him in death.

Scott was a proud graduate of Enka High School, where he played football and trumpet in the marching band-early signs of the teamwork, dedication, and rhythm he carried throughout his life. He went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Appalachian State University in 1986, launching a successful career in technology that brought him to Charlotte. Scott spent decades making an impact at IBM, Bank of America, and Ally Bank, where he was known not only for his technical expertise but for leading with humor, kindness, and heart.

A lifelong learner, Scott returned to Appalachian State University later in life and earned a Master's degree in Media, Technology, and Learning Design in 2025. He was deeply excited about using this degree to mentor younger generations-encouraging them to think creatively, lead boldly, and build with purpose.

Scott lived fully and joyfully. He was an avid sports fan and arts enthusiast who loved cheering on the Carolina Panthers, singing along to alternative rock bands at the Music Factory, training for charity runs, and watching comedy movies-often quoting them line by line-with his daughters. Time spent with family and friends was his greatest joy, and wherever Scott was, laughter was sure to follow. If he was in the room, you could always expect to get some laughs.

Scott is survived by his daughters, Grace Elise Murray and Julia Dare Murray; his mother, Nancy Chandler Murray; his sister, Gloria Murray Cobb; his nephews, Matthew and Sam Cobb; and his loving friend, Frances Walley.

A funeral service and celebration of Scott's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m., at Belk Chapel, Queens University of Charlotte (2287 Radcliffe Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28274). Burial will be held at Green Hills Cemetery, 25 New Leicester Highway, Asheville, NC 28806 at 3:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Scott's honor to the Shepherd Center Foundation in Atlanta, Georgia, supporting families like Scott's and inspiring lives rooted in hope, resilience, and possibility.
