Scott Dale Nykerk, 67, of Zeeland, was welcomed to his eternal Home on Friday, July 4, 2025., after enduring 11 years with Parkinson's Disease.
Scott was born August 1, 1957, in Zeeland, Michigan, to Chet and MaeLee (Newhouse) Nykerk. He graduated from Zeeland High School and Ferris State University. Scott started his lifelong work in construction with his father Chet as a teenager. Scott received an architectural degree and started working in the commercial construction business. In 1982 he started working at Lakewood Construction. Scott eventually became an owner/partner at Lakewood and retired from there in 2018.
Scott married Mary Van Eenenaam August 26, 1978. Scott and Mary were high school sweethearts who met in journalism class at Zeeland High. They raised their four children together and they are members of Community Reformed Church. Scott's faith was foundational in his life, and he served on the Community Reformed consistory and also as a youth leader. He also loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Recreation and sports filled Scott's free time. He led the family into enjoying boating, golfing, skiing, snowmobiles, motorcycles, and anything competitive.
Scott gave his best as a faithful husband, father, and grandfather. He worked hard, lived hard, and laughed hard. He was a kind, generous, and compassionate man who used all his gifts and resources to assist and improve the lives of those around him.
Scott was preceded in death by his father Chester Nykerk, his parents-in-law Paul and Florence Van Eenenaam, sister KimberLee Nykerk, in-laws: Bill Van Eenenaam, Paula Van Eenenaam, and Russ Steenwyk.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary, their children and grandchildren: Nick and Maria Nykerk (Kruger, Archer, Bennett, Chet), Alex and Tiffany Nykerk (Jackson, Henry), Stephanie and Andrew McLaughlin (Abigail, Madeline, Lucas), Max and Kaylee Nykerk (Fischer, Palmer, Paisley); his mother MaeLee Nykerk, his siblings: Todd and Kathy Nykerk, Barbara and Travis Hamm, Heidi Steenwyk and Dave Baugus; in-laws: Rick and Becky Van Eenenaam, Tom Van Eenenaam, Laurie Engle, many nieces and nephews and extended family members and friends.
A service in honor of Scott's faith and life will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Community Reformed Church, 10378 Felch Street, Zeeland MI 49464. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 pm, Tuesday, also at Community Reformed Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Holland or Rock Steady Boxing of West Michigan.

I first met Scott at a poker run in St.Joe. We both had new Powerquest boats. His was called "Big Dog" which fit his style to the tee. Our friendship grew through the years through boating and business. He was such a great guy with a great vision for the construction industry. He was the life of the party many times through the years. I think it's so coincidental that Scott walked across the bridge to heaven on a day full of fireworks because he loved a good time. RIP dear friend and keep the party going!!
