Scott Stegner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home - Wichita Falls on Apr. 8, 2025.
Scott M. Stegner, 74, of Wichita Falls, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
The family will receive friends at a visitation from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 12th at Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.
A son of the late Harriett "Hallie" (Modrall) and Robert Elmer Stegner, Scott was born on June 19, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, and raised in Odessa, Texas. Scott grew up with a love for golf and was an accomplished junior golfer. He went on to play for the University of Texas at Austin and Texas Tech University. After college he moved to Dallas, Texas, where he was the assistant golf pro at the Dallas Country Club. He met the love of his life, Carol Carter, in 1979 while she was working at the country club for the summer. They married April 26, 1980, in Norman, Oklahoma.
Scott earned his PGA Tour card where Carol traveled with him during the summers when she was not teaching. During his professional career, he qualified for two U.S. Open Championships, one in 1977 at Southern Hills in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the other in 1982 at Pebble Beach. He also won the Texas State Open in 1984. Scott continued to teach golf in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and coached juniors who went on to become professional golfers.
Carol and Scott settled in Plano, Texas, where they welcomed their daughter Shelby and son Travis in 1983 and 1987, respectively. After retiring from professional golf, Scott began working in the oil and gas business that brought the family to Wichita Falls, Texas, in 1991. Scott spent his time outside of work watching his children play tennis and of course playing his weekly golf games with his dear friends. He was lovingly known as "Grumps" to his five grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
Scott was also preceded in death by his mother Harriett "Hallie" Stegner and father Robert Elmer Stegner.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carol Stegner; daughter Shelby (Taylor) Hale and their three children Harrison, Palmer, and Merrick of Fort Worth, Texas; son Travis (Ginny) Stegner and their two children Jack and George of Fort Worth, Texas; sister Susan (Dan) Summers and niece Gretchen.

I'm so sorry to hear the sad news. I have so many memories of golf at Odessa Country Club with Scott, Randy Smith, my brother Pat and others.
