Sean Decker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hughey Funeral Home on Jan. 19, 2026.
Sean C. Decker, 42, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 4:12 pm December 8, 2025 at Saint Louis University Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri. He was born August 24, 1983 in Fort Benning, Georgia to Victor and Laura (Longmire) Decker. Sean married Emily (Mestel) Decker on December 20, 2008.
In addition to his parents and beloved wife, Sean is survived by his children, Gwen, William, Dorothy, and Joseph; grandmother, Eunice Steffans; siblings, Stacy Tezol and husband, Fatih Tezol, Vicki Lawson and husband, Daniel, Nicholas Decker, Anthony Decker, and Grant Decker; parents-in-Law, David and Laurie Mestel; sister-in-law, Katrina Mestel; and brother-in-law, David S. Mestel.
Sean was a caring and creative soul. He found joy in little things- looking at the stars, holding hands while sitting by a fire, watching a movie with his family, taking photos, driving while listening to music, walking in the woods, singing and playing his guitar, reading his bible, drawing with his daughters, playing video games with his sons, or just having a good conversation with anyone.
Sean was devoted to providing for his wife and children. He worked at Rend Lake College for 10 years, Continental Tire for 10 years, and recently started working for SSM and RLC again.
Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. Sean and Emily shared a lifelong adventure through marriage, schools, jobs, building a home, and watching their four beautiful children grow. He did everything he could to give them a fulfilling and joyful life.
Sean will always be missed, but he leaves a legacy of love with all who knew him.
A Visitation will be held Friday, December 19, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Sean's honor to the Decker Family, in care of Emily Decker to be placed towards the children's future education.
