San Diego, CA: Sean F. Morrill, 60, of Laurelridge Rd., passed away on October 1st at St. Vincent's Hospital, after a brief illness.
He leaves his loving wife, Jane A. (Cormier) Morrill; his sons, Connor Morrill of Santa Monica, CA and Jack Morrill of Brooklyn, NY; his brother, Michael D. Morrill and his wife Wyndie of Pompano Beach, FL; sisters, Cathleen Carpentier and her husband Luke of Southbridge, Mary Ellen Blake of Southbridge, Sheila Jalbert and her longtime companion Tony Santilli, Julie Candelaria and her husband Joseph of Marblehead, and Moira McGrath and her husband Ian of Sturbridge; brothers-in-law, Christopher Cormier of Gardner, Timothy Cormier and his wife Kathy of Fairfax, VA, Mark Cormier and his wife Anne of South Hadley, and Russell Cormier and his wife Tina of Wethersfield, CT; sisters-in-law, Lisa Weiss and her husband John of Spotsylvania, VA and Michelle Cormier of Chicopee.
Sean was born in Southbridge, the son of Michael J. and Marie Francis (Fleming) Morrill.
Sean was born and raised in Southbridge. He attended the Southbridge Public School system, graduating in 1983. While in high school, Sean found success both academically and athletically. In Sean's senior year he captained the baseball, football, and basketball teams. His basketball team went on to win the district title making them eligible for the State Tournament. Every game in the series was started with a baseline jump shot from Sean, who was also responsible for guarding the other team's best player.
During most summers you could find Sean playing golf and tennis with his friends or enjoying the family camp on Big Alum Lake. On any given day the camp would be filled with family and friends. Sean welcomed all his friends there for swimming, water skiing, and eating his family's food. It was and still remains a very special place for his entire family and their friends.
After graduating high school, Sean went on to Holy Cross where he earned his bachelor's degree in history. After college, Sean followed his one love, Jane, to the West Coast where they began their own family. Sean received his master's degree in Educational Leadership from Alliant International University. Although he spent the last 30 years on the West Coast, Sean's heart will always be with Southbridge where he grew up surrounded by family and lifelong friends. Sean was a beloved uncle and always made an effort to keep up with each of his 31 nieces and nephews. Whether on the phone, or on a porch at the Cape, he could be heard quoting lines from his favorite movies with all of them. He was devoted to his parents and made sure to call his Mom every Sunday.
Sean would tell his friends how proud he was of his two sons Connor and Jack. He called them his greatest accomplishments. He loved coaching their soccer and baseball teams when they were younger. He enjoyed playing golf, watching games and talking about sports with Connor. Although not an actor himself (even though he would always offer to go on for someone sick) he would often attend plays around San Diego and in New York City, a pastime he enjoyed exploring with Jack. He often bragged about his wife Jane and all her success, especially in coaching field hockey – he was always her biggest fan and he would quietly admit that she was also the better athlete. He was a devoted husband who loved spending time with her from the moment they met.
Professionally, Sean devoted his career to public education, working primarily for the San Diego County Office of Education and Juvenile Court and Community Schools. He also spent part of his later career working in the San Joaquin County Office of Education. He was admired and respected by his colleagues. Everyone who knew him both personally and professionally always knew they were in the presence of an honorable man.
A Funeral Mass for Sean will be held on Tuesday, October 7th, at 11:00am in St. Mary's Church, 247 Hamilton St.,
Southbridge, MA. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. There are no calling hours.
