Selena Macy Vasquez graciously shared her beautiful, passionately independent, free-spirit with us for a short time as she unexpectedly passed away on January 28th, 2025 age 55, at her residence in Murfreesboro TN. She was born on November 13th, 1969, to Margaret and Adolf Vasquez in Rockford, IL.
Selena was incredibly intelligent, fierce, and strong willed. She was a free spirit who had a knack for travel and adventure. She was a true believer in higher education. Selena truly believed education was the key to a successful life, whether it be through a textbook or real-life learning experience. Selena attended Smith College, a prestigious women's private liberal arts college. As well as she received a master's degree from the University of Montana in Public Administration. Later in life she became a case manager at a military style boot camp for incarcerated teens, in addition to working as a para educator and behavioral specialist.
Selena is survived by her children, Maricella Murillo (Derrick Mychaylo), Maximus Nelson; grandson Andres Vandecar; siblings, Paula (Duane Johnson) Monica (Jeff Vander Kooi), Angela King, Paul and Lesley Hall; several nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Selena was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Vasquez and nephew, Shawn Devlin.
A remembrance service will be held on March 8th, 10 am at St. John's Lutheran Church 1000 Bluff Street, Beloit WI.
