Sara Jane "Sally" Anderson passed away quietly at The Sequoias in San Francisco on July 11, 2025. She was born in Lake Forest, Illinois, on May 19, 1927, to the late Stanley D. Anderson Sr. and Jane McDonald Anderson. After her mother's passing, her father remarried Margaret Mudge Anderson, and she and her brother, Stanley, welcomed their new stepbrother, John Mudge. The siblings enjoyed each other and stayed close all of their lives. Sally's love of learning, strong friendships, and sports began while attending Lake Forest Forest Academy. After graduating with a degree in government from Smith College, she joined the Marine Corps. She worked at the Pentagon as a 2nd Lieutenant until 1952. Driving with a friend to California, Sally fell in love with the Bay Area. Her 37-year career with the Social Security Administration ended as an Assistant Regional Commissioner in San Francisco. After living in several locations, she finally settled in Sausalito, overlooking the water. In this home, she entertained many dear friends and family. She continued her love of learning at the Fromm Institute. Many people and charities benefited from her generosity. Her common sense, ability to laugh with wit and love for people less fortunate will be missed, but will remain her legacy. The San Francisco Community Fund was a favorite charity of hers, and donations in her name would be greatly appreciated. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Sidney Mudge (Wilmington, NC); nephew, John Mudge Jr. (Crown Point, NY); and niece, Margo Williams (Littleton, CO). She will be missed greatly by friends and family.
