Semmie Blake McAdams was born Dec. 23, 1926, in Goldonna, LA and passed away on February 25, 2025, at the age of 98. She was preceded in death by her parents, Moses Blake and Martha Burnum Blake; husband, Harvel McAdams; son, Glen McAdams; and brothers, Eather Blake, Earl Blake, and Captain Blake.
Semmie is survived by two children: Sybil M. Ford (Wayne Ford ), and Brenda McAdams (Steve Finch); grandchildren: Pamela Morgan, Debi Thompson (Chris Thompson), Lori Hursey (Paul Hursey), Melissa Ford (Jeff Pilcher), Chris Finch (Summer Dalgarn), and Jennifer Finch: great grandchildren: Mitchell Thompson, Lorin Blake Thompson, Gavin Hursey (Taylor Woolsey), Audrey Hursey (Landon Davis), Chandler Morgan Krawczyk (A.J. Krawczyk), Reid Morgan, Greyson Morgan, Kennedy Morgan (Parker Vinson); and great great grandchildren, Lane Krawczyk, Stevie Ryan Vinson, and Sutton DiAnne Krawczyk.
Semmie graduated from Calvin (La.) High School as Valedictorian in 1944, then worked at the Minden Ordnance Plant from 1944-45. There she met Harvel McAdams and married him on November 10, 1945. They raised 3 children and as the children got older, she decided to go back to school and get a degree. She graduated from Northeast Louisiana University (ULM) in 1971 and went on to teach in Ouachita Parish elementary schools from 1971 - 1992, before retiring.
Semmie loved North Monroe Baptist Church (being a member for over 50 years). Her hobbies included gardening, crocheting, reading, sewing, and poetry. She loved teaching and at the age of 95 decided to donate her body to science so that she could once again teach future generations.
In lieu of flowers, she requested that memorials be made to North Monroe Baptist Church Building Fund or the charity of your choice.
The family wishes to thank St. Joseph Assisted Living and Elara Caring for their care of Semmie.
A visitation for Semmie will be held at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. There will be no interment at this time.
