Sesil Rubain Obituary

Sesil Wayne "Wayne" Rubain, Sr., 81, of Pfafftown, NC, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Born April 2, 1944, in Bronx, NY, to the late Cecil and Mabel Rubain, Wayne was a proud New Yorker and lifelong Yankees fan.
He spent summers with his grandparents in Purcellville, VA, before his family moved to Washington, DC, in 1954. A 1961 graduate of Anacostia High School, Wayne excelled in basketball, football, and track. He later attended Howard University before beginning his career as a trucking company owner-operator. He eventually found his life's work in transit, first as a city bus driver, later with Goldline and Continental Trailways, and ultimately with Greyhound. For nearly 30 years, Wayne drove and trained drivers with Greyhound. A dedicated member of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) for over 40 years, Wayne served in multiple leadership roles and was appointed ATU International Representative in 2015, retiring in 2021.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Ellen; six children, Wayne Jr., Robin (Ebes), Stephanie, Jennifer (John), Steven, and Stacey (Todd); and five grandchildren, Christopher, Brooklyn, Jessica, Ruby, and Henry. He was predeceased by his brother, Reginald. The family will hold a private gathering. Donations may be made in his memory to the Barack Obama Presidential Library or the Democratic National Committee.
