Seth Hancock Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ramsey Funeral Home & Crematorium on Oct. 26, 2022.
Seth Evans Hancock was born March 5, 1935, in Bastrop, TX, to Arthur and Vivian (Buffa) Hancock. Seth was the youngest of three children. He spent the first few years of his life on the family farm in Oak Hill, Bastrop County, TX. His closest playmates on the farm were the chickens! With the advent of WWII, the family "sold" the property to the government for the development of what is now Camp Swift and moved to Elgin, TX. Seth graduated from Elgin High School in 1953. One of his yarns was taking the same English class twice because the teacher was so pretty!
Many years prior to graduation, Seth developed his life-long interest in anything mechanical, motorcycles, airplanes and flying. At the tender age of 9 or 10, he built a radio out of a crystal set with the antenna running across the top of the house and pulling several stations, including one from the Grand Ol' Opry. At the age of 12, he landed his first job running the projector at the movie theater in Elgin. A Mr. Poth did maintenance on the theater sound system, and as an added bonus, he flew a plane, which lit the aviation spark in Seth.
Seth served in the United States Air Force in the 1950s and was stationed in Germany. He worked in various auto body shops and machine shops throughout the late 50s and 60s. In the early 1970s Seth and his nephew, Arthur Majors, opened their own machine shop, M&H Machine & Welding, which after time, became a sole proprietorship, Texas Engine Service. He was a master craftsman in the area of precision welding and machining.
Seth married Carol Jean Pampell in April 1967. They had two daughters, Theresa and Michelle. They first lived in Austin and then in Georgetown, TX. While Seth did love to fly, he and Carol took many extended long distance car trips through the lower 48, and also had several visits into Canada. There was always a visit to an airport or flight museum included in the trips. He also enjoyed attending machinery and car auctions, enjoyed wheeling and dealing, and was always game for a "good deal." His greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren. He watched many a soccer game (may have had the distinction of being the oldest fan) and attended quite a few band concerts, plays, and swim meets.
Seth was active at Faith Lutheran Church in Georgetown, serving as elder, usher, trustee, greeter and served on the stewardship committee. In addition, he mentored students in the Tango Flight program at Eastview High School in Georgetown.
Seth had what could easily be called a fascination with airplanes, aviation, and flight. He built and flew multiple experimental airplanes over the last 40+ years and advised many private pilots on aviation and building of aircraft. He served as technical counselor for the local chapter of the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) and was a charter member of the same chapter.
Seth is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Vivian Hancock, and brother, Harrell Hancock.
Seth is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carol; daughter Theresa Hobratschk and husband Howard and their daughter, Megan, of Giddings, TX; daughter Michelle Turnipseed and husband David, and their children Kyle, Makenna, and Kinsley of Hutto, TX; sister Jo Nell Majors of Austin, TX; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Robert and Helen Boehm of Pflugerville, TX; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers are Jason Boehm, Jeremy Boehm, Blake Cartwright, Bobby Lucroy, Mason Majors and Kyle Turnipseed.
Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, Georgetown, or charity of choice.
"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary, and they shall walk, and not faint." Isaiah 40:31
