On the night of October 7, 1983, a "Starr" was born.
Sha'Donna "Starr" Baker was born in Talladega, Alabama to the union of Cynthia (Suttle) Baker and William Baker. From the time this beautiful, long thick-haired chocolate drop arrived, she made her mark on the world. Her nickname "Starr" was given to her by her maternal grandmother, Mother Lois Suttle.
Growing up Starr always had a very protective spirit. She was the "Mama Bear" to her three younger sisters, and all her family and friends. No one was going to mess with her family, especially not with her around. Often times she was misunderstood, and people thought she was mean, but Starr was just very big on loyalty, and she never backed down from what she thought was right.
At an early age, Sha'Donna started her spiritual walk while attending her grandmother Lois's church, House of Prayer for All People. During devotion, at times you would see her playing the drums. While at her grandmother's house playing around with her sister, her grandmother overheard them singing her favorite church song, "Traveling Shoes" so from then on, she encouraged her to sing at church. This was a talent that few knew Starr had.
Starr began her education journey in the Talladega City School System where she excelled and earned numerous awards over the years. It was at Talladega High School where she eventually became Company Commander of her JROTC squad, where she learned her great leadership skills. Sha'Donna was a graduate of Talladega High School Class of 2002. Later in life, Starr achieved her dream of graduating college. In December 2017, she walked across the stage at Gadsden State Community College to receive her Associate Degree in Office Administration, Medical Administrative Assistant, and Medical Billing, and Coding.
Starr was known as the "Fashionista Queen". She loved to dress and wear her heels. When she stepped out, she made a statement. Starr was always laughing and if you knew her well enough, you knew she loved funny character and comedians. She could talk as much trash as the comedians and would keep you laughing. When it came to flowers and her grandma, Starr would light up with joy. Starr enjoyed traveling to big cities and making a lifetime of memories. She became known to her family and friends as "Pioneer Woman" because of her love for all Pioneer Woman Collectibles.
Throughout her life, Starr worked various jobs including Masterbrand Cabinets, Security for SEI, a Medical Assistant for Kazi Opthalmology, and at the time of her passing, she was employed with the ENGIE Company as a Customer Service Representative. She was never afraid of working hard. In August 2020, Sha'Donna opened her crafting business, "Kreations by Starr", where she worked tirelessly to satisfy her customers. Although she was proud of her many accomplishments, there were none that compared to the joy she felt from being a mother and wife. On June 19, 2005, Father's Day, Starr became the loving mother to her son, KJ. He was the joy of her life. In 2008, she met her now husband, Antjuan, and it was love at first sight. They became inseparable and on October 15, 2010, they became one when they were united in Holy Matrimony. September 2009 brought them her second born, Jacob. In 2010, she gave herself an early birthday gift with one more son to love on, Josiah. January 2020, God decided to add a little girl, "Lola", for her to love. She was a great and phenomenal wife and mother for 18 years of her life.
On Wednesday, June 21, 2023, after 39 years on Earth, God saw fit to add another "Starr" to the heavenly skies. She departed this life surrounded by family and friends at Brookwood Baptist Health. Starr was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Mother Lois Gaston Suttle and Willie "Pump" Suttle, her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Ester Mae Baker, her niece, Kelis Cook, her mother-in-law, Kathy Lewis, and her father-in-law, Calvin Tuck, Jr.
She leaves her light to shine on in her husband, Antjuan Moten, her three sons, Kenneth Warwick, Jr., Jacob Moten, and Josiah Moten; her bonus daughter, J'orgeus "Lola" Moten; her parents, Cynthia (Terry) Stockdale and William (Lisa) Baker; her sisters, Mozelle (Marcy) Warford, Cynthia Baker, WyKeshia Baker Beard, and Rachel Farmer; her sisters-in-law, Adrian Moten, Kimberly Tuck, and Franchessica Lewis; her brother-in-law, Donald (Jennifer) Lewis; special aunt, Teresa Garrett; special niece, Malaysia Kennedy; special nephew, Karlos Moten; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
