Shane Shaffer Obituary

Visit the Rasmussen Mortuary - Mount Pleasant website to view the full obituary.

Shane Russell Shaffer was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on December 27, 1968 and passed away unexpectedly on February 19, 2026 at the age of 57. He was the second of nine children born to his wonderful parents, Martin and Dixie Shaffer. Shane was one of the happiest, most talented, and most energetic people you could ever meet—someone who literally jumped up and down with excitement about life.

He loved baking, cooking, working outside, raising animals, growing a garden and simply being with his family -especially camping at Moon Lake. He faithfully served the Lord as an LDS missionary in Seoul, Korea from 1988-1990 an experience he would forever be grateful for. He married Lori Crane in 1990 and raised their 5 children together: Walker, Klarissa, Karson, Tucker and Bentley. They were together for over 20 years before separating. Being a father and husband was everything to him. Shane studied at Utah State University and earned his bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science. He worked so hard and took all his callings in life seriously, doing his best every moment, sometimes working several jobs at a time. Shane was a jack of all trades and over the years did exciting and dangerous jobs including ruby mine guard, railroad conductor, prison guard, corrections officer, forest fire fighter, 911 operator, loss prevention specialist, and even carried a 249-machine gun as a guard at Deseret Chemical Weapons Depot.

Shane’s hobbies included drawing, painting, embroidery, sewing, crocheting, raising bees and goats, gardening, making sourdough bread, canning and bottling his harvest, raising chickens…the list goes on and on. He could grow any plant and raise any animal. He never stopped learning and challenging himself to do new things. He was so amazing at seeing the beauty in everyone. He had a heart of gold and cared more deeply than words could express. Speaking of words, sarcasm was his middle name, and he had an imagination that never quit. He laughed and loved openly. He had such a humorous side and made everyone smile and laugh hysterically. Shane is now full of joy in the arms of His Savior and with his brother, Seth Shaffer.

“Digger” you are so LOVELY and will be missed severely!

He is survived by his children: Walker Shaffer (Marissa), Klarissa Wilkinson (Tanner), Karson Shaffer (Quay), Tucker Shaffer, and Bentley Shaffer; grandchildren: Laynie and Declin Shaffer; parents: Martin and Dixie Shaffer; siblings: Joe Shaffer, Karen Shaffer, Susan Butterfield (Dean), Betsy Crane (Jeff), Nelle Muhlestein (Rex), Heather Veater (Jon), Dan Shaffer (Andrea) and Sam Shaffer (Sarah); and had many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Seth Shaffer

A viewing in honor of Shane will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Cedar Creek Ward Church located at 7655 E 15000 N, Spring City, UT.
