Shannon Simons Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Benton County Funeral Home on Sep. 17, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

"It's with immense sadness and heartbreak my wife, Shannon Barney Simons passed away unexpectedly September 13th. I have no words to describe the pain of her not being here. She was caring beyond measure. She put her family's needs in front of her own. Selfless. Shan often said live simply so others may simply live. She was a schoolteacher, an advocate for women's rights, an advocate for common sense gun laws, smart, beautiful and better than I deserve. She, along with other smart, fierce, amazing women founded Ozark Indivisible. I know the Good Lord brings people into our lives for a reason or a season, all we can do is the best we can in that season to honor the gifts God brings us. As you read this please know, Shan was deeply loved and will be missed more than I can express here but her legacy will live on."

Shannon was a graduate of Oklahoma State University and worked as an educator in Oklahoma and Arkansas. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, gardening and the company of family and friends. Shannon is survived by her husband Roderick Simons and three children, Grayson Gomulka, Thatcher Simons and Noelle Simons, who were the loves of her life.

Survivors include her father L.D. Barney and stepmother Patricia Barney. Aunts Kay Holt, Paula Ryan, Shannon's mother Ellen Dahms and Uncle Stephen Joseph. Cousins Amy Leech along with her husband Eric and children, Jessica Ellington and daughter Jaden, Jordan Ellington and children, Marta Joseph and daughters Meagan and Ashley McElroy. Other family members mourning Shannon include Peggy Simons, Boyd Simons, Boyd Simons, Jr., Judy Dunn and Jera Smith.
